BIOGRAFIA

Golden Earring é uma banda de hard rock dos Países Baixos. Fundada pelos amigos George Kooymans (guitarra/vocais) e Rinus Gerritsen (baixo/teclados/vocais). Ápós muitos anos e trocas sucessivas de formações, emplacaram seu primeiro grande hit na parada holandesa em 1965 - 'Please go' - e seu segundo single, 'That Day'(1966), foi um enorme sucesso naquele país sendo batido somente por 'Michelle' da The Beatles. Em 1968 chegaram ao #1 no top chart holandês com a música 'Dong-Dong-Di-Ki-Di-ki-Dong'. A escalada de sucessos locais continuou nos anos seguintes até o lançamento do álbum 'Eight Miles High'(1969), terceiro com Barry Hay nos vocais, cujo grande sucesso da faixa título, um cover com 19 minutos dos The Byrds, os levou a invadir os EUA e disputar espaço com bandas iniciantes como Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, e Carlos Santana. Em 1970 com seu line-up estabilizado com a entrada do vocalista e multiinstrumentista Barry Hay e o baterista Cesar Zuiderwijk adotaram uma linha mais hard em seu pop rock, inspirados no The Who, para quem abriram os shows da turne européia de 1972. Nesta fase o Golden Earring assinou com o selo do Who, pelo qual lançou uma coletânea de singles holandeses, a "Hearing Earring", o que ajudou o grupo a se lançar na Inglaterra.

Em 1973 o trabalho 'Moontan'que tornou-se um marco em sua carreira devido ao enorme sucesso mundial da faixa 'Radar Love', até hoje emblemática para a banda, tanto na Europa quanto nos EUA. Convidado, o grupo excursionou pelos EUA abrindo shows de Kiss, Aerosmith, Rush, Pink Floyd e Deep Purple e dos Doobie Brothers. Por falta de interesse da banda em se radicar e promover-se nos EUA seu sucesso teve curta duração. O prestígio da Golden Earring tornou-se invejavelmente estável emplacando até mesmo um novo grande sucesso com 'Twilight Zone', do álbum 'Cut' de 1982 e com 'When The Lady Smiles' de 1984. São até hoje cultuados tanto na Europa -nos Países Baixos, onde são deuses, já conquistaram mais de 30 Discos de Ouro e outros tantos de Platina- quanto nos EUA, onde já fizeram 13 tours, e lançaram álbuns -32 no total- com uma regularidade incrível para uma banda de hard fora do eixo EUA-Inglaterra.
