BIOGRAFIA

Tudo começou a partir de grupo teatral “The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo”, onde alguns de seus integrantes (Leia-se Danny Elfman – vocais, guitarra, percussão e programação, Steve Bartek – guitarras, Kerry Katch – baixo, Rich Gibbs – teclados, Johnny Hernandez – bateria, Dale Turner – trompete, trombone, Sam Phipps – sax tenor, Leon Schneiderman – sax barítono) decidem formar em 1979 o grupo musical Oingo Boingo. No ano de 1980 assinam contrato com o selo IRS e lançam um EP auto-intitulado. No ano seguinte assinam novo contrato com a A&M, porém o LP de estréia não alcança o sucesso comercial desejado. Os 2 álbuns seguintes lançam alguns hits em pistas de dança: Private Life de Nothing to Fear e Wake up, It’s 1984 do álbum Good for your Soul. Em 1984 o líder Danny Elfman lança seu primeiro disco solo, sendo que a partir de 1985 ele passa a se dedicar à trilhas sonoras de filmes, sendo muito requisitado na área. O álbum Dead Man’s Party de 1985 (o mais conhecido do grupo) estoura com várias músicas como Weird Science que foi tema do filme Mulher Nota Mil, a famosíssima Stay e a própria Dead Man’s Party. Outro hit fácil de se lembrar do é Just another Day do álbum Boi-ngo de 1987.

Sai em seguida o duplo ao vivo Boingo Alive de 1988 e em 1989 Skeletons in the Closet com as músicas Skin, Flesh’n Blood, When the lights go out. Já na formação do grupo estão Mike Bacich – teclados e John Avila – baixo. Em Março de 1990 o Oingo Boingo visita o Brasil em função da turnê de Dark at the Wnd of the Tunnel com o novo tecladista Carl Graves. No ano de 1981 sai uma ótima coletânea do grupo Best O’Boingo. Dá-se então um intervalo de 3 anos voltando com o ábum Boingo, um pouco mais sofisticado e maduro onde destacam-se Insanity, Mary e um cover para I am the Walrus dos Beatles. Em 95 sai o duplo ao vivo Farewell, tendo ótimas músicas do Boingo, um pouco mais vibrantes e potentes do que o normal. Em 1999 é lançaco Anthology uma coletânea dupla, recomendada para aqueles que desejam ouvir todas as fases do Oingo Boingo.
